TeQuion Brookins

A native-Detroiter and daughter of two small business owners, I graduated from the College of Wooster (Wooster, OH) in 2012 with a B.A. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and a minor in Africana Studies. While in undergrad, I remained active within the campus community, serving as President of the College’s Black Student Association, Event Coordinator of an on-campus female mentoring program, member of the gospel choir and team leader of the volunteer network. After graduating, I returned home and immediately immersed myself into the finance industry, working in the underwriting department of Michigan-based Flagstar Bank. Shortly thereafter, I began pursuing dual MBA/MSF degrees at Walsh College of Business and Accountancy (Troy, MI) and left my position at Flagstar to serve as the Finance Assistant for the McGregor Fund, a private grantmaking foundation focused on relieving the misfortunes of individuals in Southeast Michigan. In addition to Y.A.B. , I am currently involved in a number of professional networks and organizations including: Grants Managers Network, Emerging Practitioners in Philanthropy, EWI Detroit-Windsor, Operation: HOPE, PWG Michigan, and the American Chemical Society. Inspired by the great deal of entrepreneurship and female-empowerment going on in the community, I became eager to contribute my talents and experiences to the movement. In July of 2013, I decided to utilize both my classroom and work experiences to found a consulting firm with the dream of providing high quality services to hard-to-reach individuals and small businesses in an effort to promote professionalism and economic security, particularly among women & minorities. To maximize the impact of my vision, I decided to develop a business-sponsored program, Girls in Pearls, "[t]o empower and equip females with the professional business skills needed to succeed in corporate America and encourage the community at-large by setting the stage for civic engagement". When I’m not working, studying, or promoting my business and program, I can be found shopping online, concocting some new recipe, or watching a Lifetime Movie Network original.
