Lauren SheardEven as a child, I always knew that I was destined to live a life that would allow me to serve others. Born and raised in Southfield, MI, I graduated from Southfield High School in 2006 and then attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI, where I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Medical Anthropology in 2010. Before applying to medical school, I worked with a service corps as a college adviser at Muskegon High School in Muskegon, MI and also participated in establishing a girls’ mentoring program for the young ladies at the high school. Currently, I am a medical student at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago, IL. (UIC COM). At UIC COM, I am a part of a special curriculum program called Urban Medicine that will prepare me to later serve as a healthcare provider in a medically underserved community. It is my goal to become a primary care physician that is trusted by her patients and also start a non-profit organization with a mission to increase the representation of African American women in the field of healthcare.
